Situated on the A272 a little over 2 miles east of Haywards Heath, Scaynes Hill is a small village benefitting from views to the South Downs and towards Ashdown Forest to the east. The village’s history goes back centuries and can be found in historic records as early as 765 AD, but it really only developed into the village it is now during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

A recent new housing development, The Swallows, offers 3,4 and 5-bedroom homes as well as 2-bedroom apartments and will no doubt add to the positive growth of the village.

There are around 800 residents living in Scaynes Hill. At first glance it might seem that this village has less going on that it really does, but there are also over 30 social groups ranging from cricket, football and martial arts to fitness clubs, a community choir and a village club, as well as around 60 businesses that make up the community. There are also two churches – St. Augustine’s Church and Strict Baptist Chapel – as well as a Church of England primary school and two pubs.

There are numerous public footpaths and varied rural walks, and there’s a disused quarry sitting in Scaynes Hill that exposed sandstone originating from the Wealden floodplain, that was classified a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and given protected status.
