Well-known to wine lovers for the fantastic Bolney Wine Estate, the rural village of Bolney was noted during medieval times for its cherry fair and iron smelting.
Until the early 20th Century there was a windmill on the common, but while that has since been removed, Bolney boasts a relatively high number of listed properties clustered around the village church in the south and at another cluster to the north.
The award-winning Bolney Wine Estate is one of the oldest and most beautiful vineyards in the country and specialises in sparkling wines made from the traditional bottle fermentation method and aged for a minimum of 2-3 years. You can enjoy a tour of the vineyard and learn about the winemaking process that is used to produce one of Britain’s famous sparkling wines.
Elsewhere, you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat at The Eight Bells, situated towards the southern end of the village on The Street.
Bolney is just a 10-minute drive west of Haywards Heath and a 20-minute drive from Horsham to the north west. It’s situated just off the A23 offering great access to Crawley, Gatwick and London to the north and Brighton to the south.
